Clear Lake Tournaments Scheduled for 2008 The tournament schedule for 2008 has been finalized and the two dates for the 2008 calendar are listed below. Look for more information to come on the tournaments. View the tournament page for more information June 14-15, 2008 Class C 2Rd 3 Event +1S September 13-14, 2008 Class C 2Rd 3 Event +1S Sept 15-16 Tournament CANCELLED - Clear Lake Hurricane Dodger The tournament named after normally having to cancel due to hurricanes is cancelled due to low water in our lake. We are currently down 6.8 feet and expected to drop more in the coming week. The lake is still skiable but not without knowing where the shallow areas are and having to start short on the starting dock end. In fear for damaging boats, skis, and possible safety concerns for the skiers we will have to again cancel a fall tournament at Clear Lake. Any questions please contact Mark Skeen or Eddie Carrick at info@clearlakewaterskiers.com Clear Lake Competitors Take Medals at State Championships Five skiers from Clear Lake competed July 14-15, 2007 at the 2007 NC State Championships which were held at Beaver Lake in Eure, NC. Placements are listed below. The tournament was a great event held at a world class site in eastern NC. Clear Lake competitors were Earl Smith, Greg Jessup, Jessica Armentrout, Abbie Skeen, and Mark Skeen. The score book is listed here for you to view. Earl Smith Inducted to the NC Water Ski Hall of Fame Clear Lake's own, Earl Smith, aka Mr. Earl, was inducted to the NC Water Ski Hall of Fame at the 2007 NC State Championships Banquet, Saturday, July 14, 2007 at Beaver Lake, Eure, NC. Surprising Earl were his sons David and Earl, Jr. coming in to show their support for their dad. Earl was inducted in the Competitor and Pioneer categories. He has been a staple of Competitive water skiing in NC for years. Earl is well deserving this honor as he joins last years inductee, Walt Gross as the 5th member of the newly created Hall. The original inductees were Bob Buchanan(Pioneer), Al Broulliard(Official), and Tommy Wycoff(Competitor) all inducted at the inaugural induction ceremony in 2005. Look for a page dedicated to Earl coming in the future!
Clear Lake Summer Jam Update 6/11/2007 We had a great weekend for the Summer Jam. The weather was HOT on Saturday with a slight wind coming from the Slalom starting dock. This created some headaches for our slalom skiers but the jumpers liked it. Sunday was a bit cooler, just 90, but the air was thinner. This showed in a 195' jump from Treece Barringer and a couple of skiers running into 39.5 off in slalom. David Fulp qualified to Jump in Regionals this year in his first ever tournament jump. Everyone had a great time and the event ran timely giving all the chance to be home in time for dinner on Sunday evening. See the scorebook here. Check back for some pictures soon. We are hoping to be reinstated for the summer of 2008. Anyone interested in passing along a note recommending the return of Waterskiing to the 2008 Games please send an email to Chip Hofler Chip.Hofler@ncsports.org Due to this, Clear Lake has cancelled the tournament scheduled for that weekend and that weekend will be offered to the NC club with the original primary date that was used during the winter meeting. Chris Eller is working out the details and will have some news forthcoming.
